U7s - Year 2 - 2008-2009

Goring Robins U7s are enjoying a storming season, convincingly defeating two local teams in recent friendlies; Crowmarsh 5-0 and Caversham 9-0 & 8-0.

The U7s have recently received brand new kit and are very grateful to The Royal Bank of Scotland for their generous sponsorship.  The squad had the opportunity to show off their smart new strip in their recent matches - the photo shows them shortly before the friendly against Caversham.

For the Caversham fixture, the Goring squad split into two evenly balanced teams playing two Caversham U7 teams.  One of the Goring teams won 9-0, with Rowena Hearn marking her captaincy by scoring 6 goals.  She was well supported by Joe Richardson, the midfield dynamo, who netted a hat-trick.  The move of the match came when Alexa intercepted the ball in defence, threaded a through pass to Joe, who delivered an inch-perfect cross to Rowena - whose shot from distance cannoned into the top corner of the net.  Ed, Coby and Ali were all strong in defence, whilst Ryan and Thomas exuded confidence when in goal.

The other Goring team displayed similar strength, putting 8 goals past Caversham without reply.  Five of the goals came from Edward Bronimann (just reward coming from his trademark mazy runs), 2 from Sam Alexander and 1 from Robbie Bowen.  Toby used his pace to good effect, commanding the mid-field, whilst Samir provided a solid platform in defence.  Sharing the goalie duties, Bertie and James made sure that Goring kept another clean sheet.

Co-manager Jonathan Spencer commented after the matches "It's great to see the players enjoying themselves and the hard work from training delivering such spectacular results.  We're playing with justifiable confidence, maintaining good positional structure and showcasing some flowing football that's a joy to watch.  Well done to the whole squad!"

The U7s are preparing for league competition next season.  Any boys or girls interested in joining should contact the Manager, or come along to training at Sheepcot Field at 9am on Saturdays.
